Hi guys, are DB Schenker still accepting C.Vs/applications? I can't find an advertised postion on TPE for trainee driver or depot driver and the jobs bit on their site links me to a German site. Platooning in a practical test: DB Schenker receives pilot vehicles from MAN Platooning is one of the trend themes of logistics. For the first time, DB Schenker, MAN Truck & Bus and the Hochschule Fresenius are putting the technology on the road in a practical test. Train Driver at DB Schenker. Rail freight company DB Schenker has announced plans to cut 234 jobs, mainly across the north of England.

The cuts are needed because of a fall in the amount of coal being transported on the rail network, the company said.

It is understood there are plans to close its depot in Worksop and merge depots in Gateshead and on Teesside.

Jobs are also expected to go at the firm's headquarters in Doncaster and at sites in Carlisle and Warrington, said BBC political reporter David Rhodes.

DB Schenker Rail UK said it would not confirm which roles and locations were affected until it had concluded consultations with staff and the RMT and Aslef trade unions.

An Aslef spokesman said redundancies among clerical and depot staff were nearly unavoidable.

However, the union added that sacking any of its 118 train drivers was not permissible as its members had a three-year no compulsory redundancy clause in their contracts.

'Volatile market'

DB Schenker Rail UK said in a statement: 'The demand for coal is declining much faster than the industry and our customers could have reasonably predicted.

'Our customers in the energy sector remain hugely important to us and we are committed to continuing to compete in this volatile market and to maintain and increase our share where possible.'

Chief executive Geoff Spencer added: 'We must transform and reshape our organisation to ensure our long term success by evolving to meet the needs of a rapidly changing market. Ica driver for mac os x.

'I know this is an unsettling time for colleagues who may be affected and we are committed to keeping them fully informed and supported throughout this process.'

The company said it would try to protect jobs 'wherever possible'.

No idea about manchester. Sorry im only just replying, I slept all the way home. The interview asks about a time have spent alone for long periods on a recurring basis, and they want truely alone. They will ask for an example of when you have had to follow rules and regulations/procedures. They will ask about an achievement you have made. Being in a difficult situation and an emergency situation.
I passed them all yesterday so I am happy about that, but gutted for my husband as he didnt get through.

I would say liam that it depends on who you are doing the test for db schenker add additional tests into theirs which other tocs do not use, some tocs dont do the mechanical side either. You can always ring up and ask that question. Im sure they will be more than happy to help.

Bugger. Failed on the dots, the one thing I wasn't that worried about. Maybe I should have been. Practiced loads for it, too fast, not accurate enough. Borderline fail.

At least you know what to expect next time and you can do it again in 6 months time. My husband failed on the dots too. He was a borderline pass but thats not good enough for db unfortunately.
I have my managers interview on wednesday 3rd april and medical 8th april so I still have my fingers crossed.

Well not even an interview bit disappointing really.
Obviously being a holder of a pilots licence and working in aircraft engineering has no carry over skills?

Nope.

Unfortunately not no. Completely different skill set,and unfortunately as it costs so much to train a driver everyone is on a level playing field when it comes to the railway. Personally I think it is quite fair, they dont often care about what you have done, its what you can do.

Doesn't mention wages though..

Cheers for that. Been traveling from SW London to Beckton and back for the past few weeks so I've got used to it Still it's a bit of a joke that I have to allow 2 hours for a 15 mile commute across my own city, on public transport. 35 mins on my motorcycle tho'
I just wonder why they don't post wages in these adverts. Love to have a go but being of a certain age with kids there is only a certain amount I can go down to. The previous DB Schenker freight job was around £20k whilst training. I can survive on that and use my savings but I presume a depot driver is not very high up the earnings ladder.
At least you don't have to deal with the public

DD within Southern is about £33 if I remember correctly

Cheers. Have applied already as there is no harm in trying

I'd trade in my HGV license of 22 years for this any day.. miles & miles of open track in front, no a**holes cutting you up to get of at a junction, no near impossible reversing maneuvers in tight yards, heck.. not even a steering wheel, twice the money for half the hours!!!
Hmmm, might be time for a career change.

OMG!!! It's not such a straight forward process.. oh well, best get some research done.
passed the Ishihara Color Test & I can sit for hours on end by myself.. Thats 2 of about a 1000 things needed

Just failed to secure and interview for East Midlands trains for Trainee Depot Driver. As said it's a different skill set but as a former airline pilot and flying instructor, the very experienced based application I hoped would have favoured me but hey I only had a days notice and it could have been better. Also I'm 42, do you think this is cracking on a bit or more to the point do they think it's old I wonder?

I did wonder about this myself being 40?

I did wonder about this myself being 40?That thought crossed my mind as I got turned down for both jobs and obviously it's a large investment for a potentially shorter return period. I'm sure they'd never admit to it as it's discrimination but worth applying still as you never know.
Good luck to all those through to the next stages!

Not sure they will be accepting applications. The advert disappeared a few days before the listed end date anyway. I then waited 6 weeks until I heard that my application was good and invited to an assessment day. Think they will have got past the application form deadline.

Apparently all the Trainee driver spots had gone anyway, so I had been applying for the driver/operator role, wish this had been made clearer as I wouldn't have wasted one of my chances going for it.
