First time I've tried answering.

I've come across similar issues,with other hardware where Windows automatically installs what Windows thinks is correct.

First you need to find the driver or install disc that came with your device.I see you device is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

Try this.

1 got to desktop mode in 8.1

2 open file explorer from task bar

3 on left you should see 'this pc' or similar

3 RIGHT click on it Hp dc5700s driver for mac.

4 from the choices select PROPERTIES

5 from the window that opens (System ) select ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS ( on left of page )

5 when SYSTEM PROPERTIES dialogue box opens, select Hardware then DEVICE INSTALLATION SETTINGS

6 select NO LET ME CHOSE WHAT TO DO

7 go to DEVICE MANAGER separately and delete the drivers Win 8.1 has installed.

8 shut down and reboot with your device connected, at hardware detection take the option to install the driver disc or install pack I assume you have, or can get!!!

9 Remember. this device was for MS2000 and MS XP !!!.

10 last thing that comes to mind, when in DEVICE MANGER. Click the action tab and select ADD LEGACY HARDWARE. Also I am using Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation Copy 64 bit

Microsoft does not make drivers for non-Microsoft hardware. You need
to get a driver from the hardware manufacturer. If a driver for it
under Windows 7 doesn't exist, sorry to tell you that you are out of
luck.
